NEWSLETTER Year 2 - Volume 2, Dubai, February 2010 It is with great pleasure that we inform you that Dr. Medhi Mzabi has become a father for the first time. Dr. Medhi’s wife gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy named Hedi on February 10th. We wish the happy family all the best. Spring is rapidly approaching. The weather will change soon and so will the reproduction urges in your pet. We all see the large amount of stray animals (mostly cats) in the streets of Dubai and we read in the newspaper what horrible things people sometimes do to them. This seems to be a good time to inform you on spaying and neutering of your pet. If you would like to read about the difference between spaying and neutering, please Click here.
We at Al Barsha Veterinary Clinic believe in the importance of having you pet spayed/neutered (see below article). Therefore we offer to spay/neuter your pet in March with a 10% discount. Besides that, ABVC offers to spay 1 female cat and neuter 5 male cats for free on each day in March (except Fridays and Saturdays). Please note that for the free sterilization, all cats have to be strays and that they will get their ear tipped (not negotionable). This free service will be done on a first come first serve basis, so making an appointment is necessary. If you need to borrow a cat trap to catch your local stray, please contact the front desk at 04-3408601. If you would like to learn more about the necessity of ear-tipping stray cats after neutering, please Click here.
Why should I have my animal spayed/neutered? Because it is beneficiary to your pet’s health. Both cats and dogs but for instance also rabbits benefit from sterilization at an early age. Also because it is the right thing to do towards your own neighborhood (less strays). The one-year-old dog was brought to Al Barsha Veterinary Clinic by his owner a week ago with a series of broken bones and a severe skin infection. The clinic believes that his injuries are so serious they could have only been caused by a car accident at least a month earlier. Since he was left, the clinic has made repeated attempts to contact the dog’s owner but said it has not had any response. Veterinary nurse Carly Jacobs says they had requested to put the dog to sleep but Dubai Municipality refused to give permission for euthanasia as they do not own the dog. The only other option now for the clinic is to raise dhs13,000 for reconstructive surgery in Abu Dhabi. The people of Dubai donated over AED 38.500 for the treatment and care of Jassas. We at Al Barsha Veterinary Clinic would like to thank the people of Dubai for their overwhelming generosity regarding Jassas the Husky. In the meantime “Jassas” underwent reconstructive surgery on his pelvis, at the British Veterinary Clinic in Abu Dhabi on the morning of February 3rd 2010.
