Need to know when getting a puppy

Once you first own/adopt a puppy or an adult dog, there are many questions you may ask your veterinarian. Which diet should I give my new Pet? What vaccinations are required? What about the registration in Dubai?
At ABVC we recommend giving your doggy a good quality commercial puppy/adult food. These are well-balanced diets containing all nutrients your doggy needs at each step of its life. We do not really recommend table food because as much as it can be very tasty, it may not contain all nutrition you puppy needs; and your dog might move away from well-balanced dog food.
Vaccinations are highly recommended from a health state point of view but also some of them are mandatory by law. Vaccinating your dog will protect him/her from infections and germs contained in dried feces on the walk paths. Make sure you keep him/her until the age of 3 months away from getting in contact with other unvaccinated animals.
At ABVC all puppies receive vaccinations (against canine distemper, hepatitis (canine adenovirus), canine parvovirus, and parainfluenza) from the age of 7-8 weeks of age, with a second injection 3 to 4 weeks later, typically given in combination with a leptospirosis vaccine. A first booster vaccination should be given 12 months later to ensure a good level of continuing protection. After that, the frequency of booster vaccinations will be yearly. Finally, rabies vaccination along with microchipping implantation is mandatory in Dubai.
If you are planning to book your doggy for a day-care or pet hotel, yearly kennel cough vaccination will be required prior to admission at the kennel.
For the registration in Dubai, you need to provide a vaccination book or Pet Passport, the owner’s Emirates ID, and the doggy’s microchip number. At the time of rabies vaccination, a Dubai Municipality tag will be given to you by your veterinarian and at ABVC we can take care of the registration process with the local authorities.
